Satellite-observed lightning hotspots in India and lightning variability over tropical South India

چکیده
Lightning characteristics in India are examined with satellite-based Imaging Sensor (LIS) and ground-based Indian Detection Network (ILDN). LIS observations indicated that synoptic weather systems major contributors of lightning hotspots. Western disturbances (mid-tropospheric extratropical origin) were the greatest contributor Himalayas (93%), tropical cyclonic storms low-pressure (oceanic key parts eastern (43%), lower tropospheric troughs other For first time, this study reported occurrence significantly high activity before active monsoon spells Central region (65–87° E, 18–27° N). Consequently, could be used to predict spells. Harmonic analysis was diurnal lightning-flash density. The maximum observed standardized amplitude 0.35, explained variation 15%. Also, for we compared ILDN data observations, found good agreement regarding variability. showed an increase annual South-western (SWI), results also suggested during El Niño negative Ocean Dipole periods, SWI experiences above-average activity.

Electrocardiographic changes in a bystander during lightning in India.
Field workers in India are vulnerable to thunderstorms during monsoon weather (June—September). Although lightning affects all systems of the body, deleterious effects on the cardiovascular and central nervous systems are most frequently seen. Cardiovascular effects of lightning in a bystander are reported here. In June 2006, a 42-year-old man was standing in the outfield near his house during ...
متن کاملLightning medicine in South Africa.
South Africa has a rich history of lightning research; however, research on the clinical and pathological effects and features of lightning-related injury (keraunomedicine or lightning medicine) remains neglected locally. By providing an overview of keraunomedicine and focussing on South African perspectives, we hope to raise awareness and propose that a concerted and co-ordinated attempt be ma...
متن کاملDrop size distributions of tropical rain over south India
Drop size distributions (DSD) associated with tropical rainfall at Cuddalore in the south-eastern part of India have been measured by a JossWaldvogel disdrometer (RD–80 model) during September to November 2002. The rainfall data corrected for instrumental error, matches very well with rainfall rates measured by a self recording raingauge, at the same site. For further analysis of the DSD, the r...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Triggered Lightning Observed in Brazil
Several parameters of return-stroke current waveforms of triggered lightning are discussed and compared to results obtained in other places. The parameters presented in this paper, obtained for the first time in Brazil, are crucial in the lightning protection research. All these measurements were done with a sample rate of 100 ns, enabling us to study rise and decay times of the waveforms. Imag...
